About the Tournament

We’re excited to host another year of the Jackie Dockter Memorial Tennis Tournament. This tournament is played annually to honor the life and legacy of Jackie Dockter, a talented tennis player and special person whose life ended too soon; Jackie passed away from a brain tumor in the fall of 1999, her senior year of high school. In the years following her death, the Jackie Dockter tournament was created and has been a staple of the tennis community in North Dakota and a can’t-miss event of the summer tennis schedule. In 2023, the pickleball tournament was created to further share Jackie’s story with more members of the racquet sports community. All the proceeds of the tournament go to local tennis teams in an effort to keep the game of tennis prospering in our community.

About Jackie

Jackie was born February 21, 1982, in Bismarck to Celia (Cec) and Jerry Dockter. She attended Northridge Elementary, Cathedral, and St Mary’s Central High School.  Jackie died November 3, 1999, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, six weeks after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. Jackie was most known for how she made people feel.

Jackie was known for her accomplishments both on and off the tennis court. She was the West Region Girls’ Singles Champion in 1999 and placed third in the North Dakota State Girls’ Tennis Tournament. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was a cheerleader for the boys’ basketball team and captain of the football cheerleading squad. In her senior year she was elected St. Mary’s Homecoming Queen.

Her love for children was apparent when she taught summer tennis lessons for the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District.  She had a special gift of making people laugh with her quick wit. Her enthusiasm for life crossed school boundaries. She made friends with a variety of people, not only in the Bismarck/Mandan area, but also across the entire state. Jackie is missed by many.

  • Registration is online. Links for each tournament are at the top of this page. Select your event(s), add your doubles partner and t-shirt size, and complete payment.

  • Yes, as long as the schedules don’t conflict. Tennis players can play 2 events — either 1 singles and 1 doubles or 2 doubles

  • Play singles, or sign-up without a doubles partner. We will try to arrange a partner for you, but we make no promises.

  • All proceeds from our tournament go toward our local high school and college tennis teams:

    • Mandan High School (Boys and Girls)

    • St. Mary’s High School (Girls)

    • Century High School (Boys and Girls)

    • Bismarck High School (Boys and Girls)

    • Legacy High School (Boys and Girls)

  • Yes, if you sign up before the end of the day on Sunday, June 1. If you sign up after that, you do not.

  • Tennis tournament draws are posted to the sign-up web page by end-of-day on Tuesday, June 3. Pickleball players will play throughout the 2.5 hour duration listed on their event.

  • Selkirk Pro S-1 Pickleballs

  • Pickleball events are held at Mandan Tennis Center.

    Tennis events are held at Tom O Leary, Sertoma, and Mandan Tennis Center in case of inclement weather.
